Course in Sign Language Offered Via TV

July 28, 2004 – The Human Services Division of Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services and WTJX TV 12 have scheduled a beginner's Sign Language course.
Persons who may be experiencing considerable hearing loss or are just interested in learning a new language or simply want to be able to communicate with family or friends are encouraged to take advantage of this free course. Employees of government agencies and private establishments who conduct business with deaf members of the community are also encouraged to attend.
Classes will be conducted every Friday beginning Aug. 13 through Sept. I7, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Knud Hansen Complex in the Vocational Rehabilitation conference room. Each session will be aired on "Enhancing Communication with Deaf People" a show to be aired on TV 12
The first 15 registered persons will receive instruction in the classroom. An additional 100 – 50 from 5L Thomas and 50 from St. Croix – will receive packets of instructional material at registration and can participate in the course as it is aired on WTJX TV I2.
Certificates of completion will be issued only to registered participants.
Registration begins on July 26 and runs through Aug. 6 on St. Thomas at the Division of Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services office at Knud Hansen Complex and the Community Rehabilitation Facility in Anna's Retreat and on St. Croix at the Golden Rock and Kingshill office.
