Kerry Supporters Invited to Aug. 15 Meeting

0

Aug. 13, 2004 Iris Kern and Bill Needham invite John Kerry supporters to a meeting Sunday at their Estate Carolina home to discuss what Virgin Islands residents can do to help elect the Kerry-Edwards ticket to the White House.
"We've got to get the president out. I've never encountered anybody less competent and more frightening," Kern said, referring to President Bush.
She said that although V.I. residents can't cast their ballots in the presidential election, many of their youths serve in the military. "Here we are sending young men and women to die, and they can't even vote," she said.
At the very least, Kern said, V.I. residents can call everyone they know on the mainland to urge them to vote for Kerry and John Edwards.
Kern said that although she and Needham, her husband, aren't well-heeled enough to contribute to the Kerry-Edwards campaign, she can use her home as a place to organize an effort to help get them elected.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Call 693-7233 or 693-5757 for more information and directions to the Kern/Needham house.
