August 15, 2004 – What Boy Scouts are calling the "Superbowl" of sport fishing tournaments will take place on St. Thomas, Aug. 25-30.
The event will benefit Boy Scouts of America, V. I. Council and volunteers are needed to help with various activities for the five days of fishing festivities.
According to a press release, this "catch and release" tournament will be attended by fishermen from around the world and will present the participants with the opportunity to give money for this cause while doing what they love most, fishing!
As of Aug. 11, there are 50 confirmed boats entered in to what will be the 32nd Atlantic Blue Marlin Tournament. Many of the resorts and other businesses on St. Thomas have enlisted as sponsors.
There will be several parties for the contestants, observers and volunteers who would like to attend: Tuesday at 9:30 p.m., XO will host a "Woo Woo Party," where those in attendance can learn the origins of the drink and take part in the annual ritual, Wednesday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. is the kick off party at Wyndham Sugar Bay Beach Club and Resort. Thursday there will be more fun at American Yacht Harbor where steaks, chops and ribs will be served (guest tickets available). Friday is dock party night where finger foods will be served with drinks at both marinas and Saturday is Caribbean Night featuring the fabulous Mocko Jumbies and a live calypso show at 7:45 p.m. The Boy Scouts will be serving Cheeseburgers in Paradise, a "reel" treat for those in attendance, and finally, Sunday, the Ritz-Carlton will host a full moon party for the anglers, observers and crew.
Volunteers are needed to sell t-shirts, raffle tickets, bartend, serve food and perform various other duties to ensure a smooth operation and a great time for all attending these events.
