August 17, 2004 – The MASA St. Thomas Open will take place Aug. 28 and 29, with a practice round on Aug. 27.
According to a press release, the tournament, which benefits KidScope and The St. Thomas/St. John Junior Golf Program, is truly the golfing event of the year. Competing with the large local golfing contingency will be the best golfers from the surrounding Caribbean Islands, as well as some from stateside. The participating field of golfers is limited to the first 144 entries.
This is MASA’s, Medical Air Services Association, 13th year as the title sponsor.
William R. Anderson, of MASA, said, "We are proud of the relationship we have with the St. Thomas/St. John Golf Association, Mahogany Run Golf Course, the golfing community in the Caribbean, the St. Thomas Junior Golf program, as well as charities such as KidScope who will be this year’s beneficiary. Because of MASA, along with the generous help of the St. Thomas business community, The MASA St. Thomas Open has generated $100’s of thousands of dollars for local charities over the years and will continue to do so as long as MASA is involved."
KidScope is a non-profit agency founded in 1997 to provide a safe environment for V. I. children and families who have been victims of abuse. They work hard to help heal these abused childrens, trying to help them get their lives back. KidScope is a local charity that is totally dependent upon grants, private donations and fund-raising in order to meet its operating costs.
The St. Thomas/St. John Junior Golf Program provides children with a sporting experience that builds character, honesty, concentration and etiquette.
