New Student Orientation Under Way
New student orientation at UVI is scheduled for Aug. 16 through 19. Complete orientation schedules for UVI's St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses are available on the UVI Web site (link at end). For direct links to the orientation schedules select below:

UVI to Host Visiting Kean University Students for Heritage Lectures
UVI Professor Gene Emanuel and instructor Dr. Wanda Mills-Bocachica will lecture to visiting students from Kean University of Union, N.J., on the African experience in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The lecture will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110) on the St. Thomas campus. It will be videoconferenced to the St. Croix campus in Evans Center Room 401. The session is free and open to the UVI Community as well as the general public.
The presentations will follow a lecture given to the students at Fort Christian by Myron D. Jackson on the African heritage in the British and Danish West Indies. Professor Emanuel will lecture on the 1733 St. John revolt, and Dr. Mills-Bocachica will discuss the African experience in Puerto Rico.
Approximately 26 students are participating in Kean University's African Diaspora Travelearn Course. They are traveling on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas cruise ship. The group will also visit Puerto Rico, and then Haiti, where they will explore themes on the Haitian Revolution. The Travelearn program is coordinated by Dr. Barbara Wheeler, director of the Africana Studies Program at Kean University. She can be reached at 908-737-3915.

Sessions Set Aug. 18-19 on UVI Medical and Prescription Benefits Plans
Cigna HealthCare representative Miles Evans will visit UVI's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses this week to present informational sessions for all UVI employees. Pertinent information on the medical and prescription plan benefits will be shared with UVI employees. The meetings will be videoconferenced on the following schedule:
— Live from St. Thomas – Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon, in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110) and videoconferenced to Evans Center Room 401 on St. Croix.
— Live from St. Croix – Thursday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, in Evans Center Room 401 and videoconferenced to Teacher Education Room 101 on St. Thomas.

STARfest Featured Each Monday on WTJX-TV
The Virgin Islands' best singers and dancers are featured each Monday on STARfest on WTJX Public Television. The program includes highlights from past STARfests and airs at 8 p.m. It is offered in collaboration with UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts.
UVI-CELL Announces CPA Exam Preparation Courses on St. Thomas
The UVI Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning Center will offer a CPA Review course on St. Thomas. This course is designed for individuals preparing to take the Certified Public Accountant Exam. It provides a comprehensive review and practical skills to prepare for the exam. The course will cover areas such as auditing and attestation, financial accounting and reporting, regulation, and business environment and concepts. Classes will be held from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from Aug. 31 through Nov. 6. The fee of $1,195 includes four textbooks and software.
