Nov. 3, 2004 – The Coral Bay waterfront needs a cleanup, and you're invited to help with a pre-season cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m on Nov. 13.
"There's a lot of leftover junk and debris around. There's a year's worth of litter," Sharon Coldren, president of the Coral Bay Community Council, said Wednesday.
The litter includes all manner of flotsam and jetsam, which volunteers will pick up as they walk along the beach or take a boat along the shore.
The Coral Bay Community Council, the Coral Bay Yacht Club, the John's Folly Learning Institute, and the Kids and the Sea Program, better known as KATS, sponsor the event.
Yacht Club commodore David Conro said the groups plan to get rid of derelict and abandoned dinghies sitting along the shoreline.
"I'm letting everybody know that if you have something you like, you need to get it out of there," Conro said.
Coldren said that if people can't volunteer on Nov. 13, they could clean up on other days. Recyclable trash will be sorted into piles for pickup by the Public Works Department. To volunteer, show up at 9 a.m. at the Coral Bay dinghy dock.
