Online Registration for Spring 2005 Semester Continues Through Dec. 3
Online registration for the Spring 2005 semester at the University of the Virgin Islands will continue to be available for all returning students through Dec. 3. UVI's Spring semester will begin on Jan. 13, 2005, and end on May 8, 2005. Spring class schedules are available on the UVI web site's – www.uvi.edu – Academics page. Access to online registration is also available from links on the UVI home page. For more information on St. Croix, call the Academic Services office on St. Croix at 692-4158. For more information on St. Thomas call the Admissions office at 693-1150.
Parking Restrictions on St. Thomas Campus for Nov. 20-22 Announced
Evening parking on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands will be restricted from Saturday, Nov. 20 through Monday, Nov. 22. Parking spaces in the Classroom Administration (C.A.) building parking lot will be reserved for Little Theatre patrons. Persons attending the UVI Paradise Jam basketball tournament will be asked to park in the Sports and Fitness Center parking lot, the Humanities Division parking lot or the lot behind the C.A. building.
UVI Paradise Jam Games Set for Nov. 19 – 27; Tickets On Sale
Tickets are on sale now for the fifth annual UVI Paradise Jam NCAA Division I basketball tournament. Games in the men's division will run from Nov. 19 to 21, with championship round action on Nov. 22. Women's division games are scheduled for Nov. 25 through 27. The tournament will feature 14 teams and, for the first time, national live television coverage of the championship games.
Tickets cost $10 for VI residents (with an ID), $40 for non-VI residents, and $5 for students ages 5 – 17. UVI students can purchase $5 tickets at the UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus. A student ID will be required to qualify for the $5 price. Tickets are also on sale at Modern Music (Havensight) Parrot Fish (Back Street) The Rack (Tutu Park) and Nisky Pharmacy.

EPSCoR Science Lecture on Effects of African Dust Set Nov. 19
A lecture on "African Dust, Coral Reefs and Human Health" will be presented by marine ecologist Dr. Virginia H. Garrison from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, at the University of the Virgin Islands. Garrison is among a number of scientists at the US Geological Survey's Center for Costal & Watershed Studies in St. Petersburg, Fla., who have been studying the effects of globally transported African and Asian dust.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will originate in Chase Auditorium (Business Education room 110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus and will be videoconferenced to the Theatre (Evans Center room 401) on the St. Croix campus. The presentation is part of a series of lectures being hosted by UVI's Center for Marine and Environmental Studies, the Division of Science and Mathematics and the VI-Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program. Lecture on Rock Music in Trinidad Set for Saturday, Nov. 20
Dr. Timothy Rommen, the fall 2004 Rockefeller Resident Fellow at the Alton Augustus Adams Music Research Institute on St. Thomas, will give a public lecture at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, titled "Localize It: Rock Music and the Ethics of Style in Trinidad." The lecture, which is cosponsored by the Music Department of the University of the Virgin Islands, is free and open to the public. It will be presented in Chase Auditorium, Business Education Room 110 on UVI's St. Thomas campus. It will be video-conferenced to Room 401 of the Melvin Evans Center on the St. Croix campus.
22nd St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair Set Nov. 20-21
Agriculture will be displayed at its best at the 22nd Annual St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture and Food Fair scheduled for Nov. 20 and 21, on the grounds of the University of the Virgin Islands Reichhold Center for the Arts. Crop farmers, food vendors and various government departments will come together for the fair themed "Agriculture Galore in 2004."
The fair opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. on both days. About 50 vendors offering everything from cooked food and nursery plants to arts and crafts are part of the two-day event. Daily admission is $2 for individuals 12 and over and $1 for those 11 years and younger. For more information, call 774-5182 or 693-1080.
UVI's Little Theatre Fall Presentation Dates Changed Nov. 20-23
The UVI Little Theatre has announced that the schedule for its fall presentation of Agatha Christie's long running mystery "The Mousetrap" has been adjusted, with opening night now set for Nov. 20. The change was necessary to ensure adequate parking for the play and other activities scheduled the same weekend on UVI's St. Thomas campus. "The Mousetrap" will now run through Nov. 23, with a curtain time of 8 p.m. each evening. Tickets purchased for the Nov. 19 opening may be exchanged at any ticket outlet for any other performance. Ticket outlets include Dockside Bookshop, Nisky Pharmacy and the UVI Humanities Building and Book Store on the St. Thomas campus. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $6 for students. Free HIV Testing Offered Nov. 22 on St. Croix Campus
The Health Services Center on UVI's St. Croix campus, in collaboration with VI Care, will sponsor free HIV testing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22. Testing will take place in the Health Services Center in the Great House. For details, contact the Health Center at 778-1620 ext. 3314.
IASTED Conference Series Set Nov. 22-24 at Frenchman's Reef
The International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) will conduct a conference series focusing on computer science, information technology, and environmental modeling and simulation at Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott and Beach Resort from Nov. 22 through 24. UVI's Music Program Christmas Concert Slated for Dec. 4 at the Reichhold
A Christmas Concert will be presented by the Music Program at the University of the Virgin Islands at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. Sponsored by UVI's St. Thomas campus Humanities Division, the program will include performances by the UVI Concert Band, directed by Austin A. Venzen, the UVI Concert Choir, directed by Kirsten Kienberger, the UVI Jazz Ensemble, directed by Martin J. Lamkin, and the UVI Steel Pan Ensemble, directed by Shenella Werner.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Ticket outlets include the Reichhold Box Office, the UVI Bookstore, the UVI Humanities Division and Dockside Bookshop in Havensight Mall.
SBDC Continues 'Starting a Business' Seminar Series Today on St. Thomas
The UVI Small Business Development Center will conduct a seminar entitled " Forms of Ownership" from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 15), at the Small Business Development Center Training Facility on St. Thomas. The seminar, the second in a series of seven titled "Checklist for Starting a Business," is designed for business owners, students and employees. Admission is $20 for each seminar. Those who pre-register will receive a 25 percent discount on
each seminar. UVI and high school students (with I.D.) and UVI employees are admitted free, however, they must pre-register. To pre-register or for more information call 776-3206 from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Passion Into Profits' Seminars Set on St. Thomas, St. Croix
Two seminars entitled "Turn Your Passion into Profits" will be offered by the New Image Foundation and UVI's Small Business Development Center. The seminars are set for noon on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas and for noon on Friday, Nov. 19, at the SBDC Sunshine Mall office on St. Croix. These will be the first in a series of seminars designed to help individuals start their own businesses. Facilitators will be Warren Bush, Linroy Freeman and Karen Jones from the SBDC and Cynthia Jerry, president and CEO of the New Image Foundation. Admission with pre-registration is $10 or $15 at the door. A box lunch is included. The seminars are open to the public. To reserve space or to obtain more information, call 777-8883.
