Dec 6, 2004 — Superintendent Art Frederick of Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument announced Monday that the deadline for removal of storm gears and tackles from Hurricane Hole, St. John has been extended. Vessel owners are now required to remove all anchors, chains, ropes, buoys and sandscrews from the bays in Hurricane Hole by Dec. 18. This date provides a slightly extended period from the November 30th deadline given in the Storm Refuge Permits due to the unpredictable nature of the 2004 hurricane season. Any gear or tackle remaining in Hurricane Hole after the extended date of December 18, 2004 will be removed by park personnel and confiscated.
Superintendent Frederick sincerely thanks all members of the boating community for their continued understanding of the need to protect this valuable natural resource and for their cooperation in helping the Park to do so. We are grateful that the Virgin Islands did not sustain any significant hurricane threats this year.
