News Brief: Sugar Estate and Estate Thomas Water Problem Solved

Jan. 20, 2005 – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority has corrected the water contamination problems it was experiencing at Sugar Estate and Estate Thomas, according to a release from the authority.
Water samples collected on indicated that the coliform bacteria problem reported Tuesday has been corrected.
Potable water customers in the Sugar Estate and Estate Thomas area were notified on Friday of a problem with the water distribution system in that area and advised to boil drinking water as a precautionary measure. On Tuesday the Authority reported that routine water samples collected on Jan. 10 tested positive for total coliform and e-coli bacteria.
The Monday tests indicate that the coliform problem no longer exists in the Sugar Estate and Estate Thomas area, therefore it is no longer necessary to boil drinking water for four minutes, the release stated.
