Freshman Senator Juan Figueroa-Serville, in his first press release since taking office, reaffirmed his commitment to work with Tourism Commissioner Pamela C. Richards in her efforts to increase cruise ship participation on St. Croix.
Senator Figueroa-Serville said he was pleased to witness the increased activity in the town of Frederiksted with the arrival of the MSC Opera at the Ann Abramson Pier on Wednesday. The ship, which has a capacity of 1563 passengers and 763 crew members, docked on St. Croix from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.
"I was pleased to see the tourists walking the streets of Frederiksted, exploring the shops and historic sites," said Senator Figueroa-Serville. Figueroa-Serville noted that Christiansted got its share of the tourism business as well as the taxi and tour operators.
Senator Figueroa-Serville contacted Tourism Commissioner Pamela Richards to reaffirm his support in increasing cruise ship tourism in St. Croix. The freshman senator appealed to the public to continue making our visitors feel welcome during subsequent visits to St. Croix.
"In promoting this positive action and good work taken by the commissioner to network with the cruise ship industry, I take this opportunity to inform the community of the second port of call this month from the MSC Opera on Wednesday, February 16. The cruise ships Serenade and Radiance will be bunkering twice this month on February 6th and 16th respectfully."
The Senator plans to continue networking with Richards. "I have invited Commissioner Richards to conference with the Minority Caucus and she has accepted so we can be informed of her progress and be better prepared as law makers to help facilitate the consistent return of cruise ships to St. Croix," said Figueroa-Serville.
"The 26th Legislature has the opportunity, through legislation, to promote the growth of St. Croix's infrastructure, continue networking and communicating with Commissioner Richards, and exercise oversight by encouraging the Governor and Lt. Governor to make St. Croix their first priority for the next two years," concluded Senator Figueroa-Serville.
