Feb. 12, 2005 – Laverne Jones, a graduate of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School, took second place in the 200-meters indoors race at the Tyson Invitational track meet with a time of 23.83 behind Dee Dee Trotter's 23.19. They competed Friday at the University of Arkansas.
Jones is currently training for the World Championships set for August in Helsinki, Finland, a release from the V.I. Track and Field Federation said. She is a multiple All-American as a junior college student, where she led Barton Community College to several national junior college championships, and at the University of Oklahoma, where she represented that Division I school in NCAA finals two years indoors and outdoors.
The Tyson Invitational track meet will be shown on ESPN 2 on Saturday evening. Scheduled time is listed variously as 9 or 9:30 p.m. Eastern, but check for start-time variation.
