March 7, 2005 – Construction work is proceeding at two intersections on the Melvin H. Evans Highway.
According to press releases from the Department of Public Works, the replacement of signal wires, signal heads and maintenance work will be done at the Sunny Isle intersection on Thursday during the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Commissioner Wayne D. Callwood said that during this time the signals at the intersection will not be in operation. As a result, motorists are advised to exercise caution while approaching the intersection and be alert to the signs that will be posted.
Also St. Croix motorists are reminded that the intersection of Melvin Evans Highway and Route 709, which is the road adjacent to the Ricardo Richards School, is closed to traffic coming from Frederiksted until Tuesday to complete drainage improvements.
Motorists are asked to continue to look for flagmen and traffic signs as the eastbound lanes from Christiansted are reduced to one lane.
