March 17, 2005 — The Department of Planning and Natural Resources will conduct workshops on lime wash and column plasterwork detailing of historic buildings. The workshops will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday March 18 on column detailing and Monday March 21 on pigmented lime wash at Fort Frederik Museum. The workshops are being conducted in collaboration with the State Historic Preservation Office and the Virgin Islands Danish Apprenticeship Initiative.
The primary objectives of these workshops are to instruct those interested in the restoration of column detailing and the traditional application of lime wash with pigment. A team of Danish masonry apprentices and instructors will be conducting the workshops.
In a release from his office Dean Plaskett, DPNR commissioner, invited masons, contractors, historic homeowners, architects and interested residents of the territory to participate in the workshops.
Plaskett also acknowledged the support and funding from Our Town Frederiksted, the St. Croix Landmarks Society, the Office of the V.I. Delegate to Congress, the St. Croix Foundation, Department of Education, Taller Larjs/Gerville Larsen, the Historic Preservation Office, and St. Croix Rotary. For more information, call Historic Preservation at 773-1082 ext. 2208 or Fort Frederik at 772-2021.
