April 7, 2005 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen on Thursday called for an in-depth look at the Bush budget that proposes cuts in many programs designed to close the gap in health disparities, according to a release from her office.
Her comments came during a rally on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. It was the kickoff for the Congressional Black Caucus 2005 Health Braintrust, which is pushing to better meet the needs of medically underserved people, the release said. Christensen chairs the health policy group of the CBC.
Representatives from a wide range of medical associations attended the rally. Mel Watt, chair of the CBC, also spoke of the need to close the gap on health disparities.
On Friday, April 8, the Braintrust will feature panel discussions on topics like identifying problems in the administration budget, protecting Medicaid and expanding healthcare coverage, according to the announcement.
