St. Croix Kicking Off Friendly Campaign

April 25, 2005 – A new public relations campaign on St. Croix is putting the accent on relations.
The goal, according to Fred Laue, president of the Hotel and Tourism Association "is to make everyone feel comfortable with each other."
He said the campaign is aimed at residents as much as it at guests. The center pieces of the campaign are the greetings "Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Night." The greetings are on over 10,000 bumper stickers. This week several businesses started distributing the bumper stickers and more will have them on hand soon.
Laue said posters will also arrive soon and be distributed to the hotels, resorts, and other areas where residents and guests mingle.
Laue said this continues St. Croix's official effort to make its culture and heritage part of the appeal to tourists. He said, "Once there was a time when everyone greeted everyone on the street."
And that tradition has not died out completely. Laue told of an incident recently where he was in a room where he had been called for potential jury duty. He noticed everyone that came into the room greeted everyone else. "It was a good feeling seeing that," he said.
The St. Croix Chamber of Commerce and the Frederiksted Economic Development Association are partners with the Hotel and Tourism Association in launching the campaign.
Laue said after all the materials are in place representatives from the association will be making appearances on TV and radio shows to talk the promotion up.
