Rescheduled UVI Strategic Plan 2012 Town Hall Meetings Begin May 9
Virgin Islands residents are invited to help shape the future of the University of the Virgin Islands at UVI-sponsored town hall meetings in May on St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix. The general public is invited to share their views and opinions, which will aid in the development of UVI's Strategic Plan for 2012. Each session is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Town hall meeting locations are as follows:
— St. John Legislature Building — May 9
— St. Thomas Palms Court Harbor View Hotel — May 10
— St. Croix Botanical Gardens — May 18

Congratulations to UVI Carnival Participants and Supporters
Congratulations to all members of the UVI Community who joined in or supported the University's participation in the 2005 Carnival. UVI fielded a colorful, 70-member troupe in the Adult's Parade. The effort won first place in the troupes under 100 category. UVI's Family Life Center Pan Panthers performed in the Children's Parade and UVI 4-H participants Zalania Clark and Ajanie Farrington won the Junior Queen of Band and Junior King of Band titles, respectively. A slide-show of the UVI troupe in Saturday's Adult's Parade is available on the UVI web site www.uvi.edu.
Final Exams Set May 2-8; Semester Ends May 8
Final exams are scheduled for this week – Monday, May 2, through Sunday, May 8. The spring semester officially ends on Sunday, May 8.
St. Thomas Campus Bookstore Announces Book Buy-back Hours
The UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus will offer an extended, end-of-semester schedule to accommodate students wishing to sell used books. The bookstore has scheduled book-return hours for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for May 2-6 and again on Monday, May 9. The Bookstore will also be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
Ushers Sought for 2005 St. Thomas Campus Commencement
The UVI Commencement Committee on the St. Thomas campus is seeking students interested in being ushers at the 2005 commencement ceremonies scheduled for Saturday, May 14, at the Sports and Fitness Center. Anyone interested should contact Dr. Lorna C. Young-Wright at 693-1191.
CZM Hearing for VIERS Construction Rescheduled to May 4
The St. John Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Public Hearing for Major CZM Land Development Permit No. CZJ-3-05(L)/University of the Virgin Islands, originally scheduled for April 26, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 4, for noon (12 p.m.) at the Conference Room of the Legislature Building, Estate Enighed, St. John, Virgin Islands. The proposed permit is for the renovation of an existing lab building and construction of an office building and conference center at UVI's Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station (VIERS) located at No. 5 Estate Lameshur Bay, St. John.
New Scholarship Programs Targets Undergraduates in Wide Range of Studies
UVI students are encouraged to investigate a new scholarship program for undergraduates who are pursuing a wide variety of academic interests. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program is being offered to undergraduates studying in the following areas: biological, life and agricultural sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, computer and information sciences, social and behavioral science, and teacher education. UVI Concert Band to Offer Mother's Day Concert in the Garden on May 8
A "Mother's Day Concert in the Garden" will be presented at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, by the University of the Virgin Islands Concert Band. The concert will be presented in Emancipation Garden in Charlotte Amalie. UVI Music Professor Austin Venzen, who conducts the concert band, promises a stress-free, relaxing evening. The program will include classics and marches such as Henry Fillmore's "The Klaxon," J.S. Bach's "Air," Frank Erickson's "Air For Band," Hall Johnson's "Ride On King Jesus," Clifton Williams' "The Sinfonians," Irving Berlin's "Songs For America" and John Williams' "The Olympic Spirit." On the lighter side will be such offerings as "The Greatest Love of All," "You Raise Me Up," "On the Wings of Love" and "Let's Groove."
UVI-CELL Offers Home Health Aide Course in St. Thomas
UVI's Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVI-CELL) Center is now registering students for its Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA) training program in St. Thomas. This 120-hour course will prepare a student to take the national certification exams to become a Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA). Students will learn to provide safe and effective care to their patients, while assisting the care team in achieving patient goals. Course dates are May 10 though July 19 on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The course fee of $875 includes a manual and medical kit. Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company to Perform May 14 at Reichhold Center
The Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company will perform at the Reichhold Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. The company melds ancient Chinese forms with modern dance in an artistic and inventive marriage of styles. Company members will also conduct a series of student residencies as well as a Master Dance Class on Friday, May 13. A full news release is available on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.
Upward Bound Alumni Schedule May 14 Videoconference Session
The next meeting of the Upward Bound Alumni Association will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 14. The meeting will be held simultaneously on the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses via videoconference. On St. Croix the meeting will be held in The Theatre (Evans Center room 401). On St. Thomas the meeting will be held in Chase Auditorium (room B-110). All Upward Bound alumni are urged to attend. For more information call 693-1130 or 692-4182.
