May 5, 2005 – Police responding to an emergency call just before 10 a.m. found Eurie Joseph, 32, shot dead inside his own Campo Rico home. Three hours later, Winston Francis, 67, was robbed and shot after leaving the Sunny Isle shopping center.
According to Deputy Police Chief Herminio Velazquez, Joseph was pronounced dead at Juan F. Luis Hospital, but had already "succumbed to his wounds" by the time police found him.
A Police Department release states that the initial investigation revealed Joseph was fired at while outside his home, and was then followed inside by two men who continued firing. The perpetrators are described as slim, black males wearing black clothing and black ski masks.
The two fled in a 2003 white Chevy Cavalier, license plate CBA-453, which they stole from the victim's home.
Just after 1 p.m., Francis, the owner of a check cashing business, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money after exiting the Sunny Isle Scotiabank. According to the police statement, Francis was accosted by two males who fled in a white vehicle. Police believe the vehicle was then abandoned in the vicinity of Strawberry Hill off the Estate Bonne Esperance Road.
Velazquez said early Thursday evening that there is no further information about either incident. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department by dialing 911, or calling 778-2211.
