May 12, 2005 – In support of the "At Your Library" program, and to further celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Mahogany Run Golf Course, Ginn Clubs and Resorts has donated $25,000 to the St. Thomas Public Library System to kick off Ginn's new "Resort to Reading" program.
Ginn Clubs and Resorts, which purchased Mahogany Run Golf Course last year, is commited to literacy and "programs on the island that have a high impact on our youth," said Rich Hohman, vice president of asset development at Ginn Clubs and Resorts.
Scholastic Books will further support the program through their Scholastic Literacy Partners program, which provides discounts on a wide range of quality children's books.
"With the support of community partners like Scholastic Books and Ginn Clubs and Resorts, our capability to encourage reading has been greatly enhanced," said Wallace D. Williams, territorial librarian with the Division of Libraries.
Williams accepted the donation on May 5 on behalf of the St. Thomas Public Library during a ceremony at Mahogany Run Golf Course. Area children were special guests for the event and received books as well as anniversary Mahogany Run Golf Course memorabilia.
The "Resort to Reading" program will run throughout 2005 and includes ongoing activities sponsored by Ginn Clubs and Resorts and Mahogany Run Golf Course to encourage reading and reinforce the importance of literacy to children and their parents. Special programs planned throughout the year include celebrity readings, book drives and a program to reward literacy volunteers with discounted rounds of golf.
The $25,000 donation will be used to underwrite the cost of library books for the "Young Adult Collection."
