May 19, 2005 – Four months after she was re-elected to serve as the president of St. Croix's Chamber of Commerce, Anna Hector has resigned. Hector, on Jan. 19, after the vote of confidence from Chamber members, talked happily of the recent accomplishments of the Chamber and what she envisioned for its future.
A press release from the Chamber on Thursday said she was leaving the post for personal reasons.
Diane Butler, a current board member and a photographer and publisher has been named to lead the Chamber. She publishes the St. Croix Explorer map.
An e-mail that went out to chamber members on Tuesday was spare. It said, "Please be advised that Mrs. Anna Hector tendered her resignation to the board of directors this morning. The board voted to accept her resignation and in accordance with the bylaws, Ms. Diane Butler has been named Interim President."
Butler has been a board member for the past three years serving on the marketing, and tourism committees and as a vice president for Internal Affairs.
She said in the press release, "I am eager to continue the good work that has been done by the Chamber's leadership and look forward to tapping the intellectual resources of our diverse community. We are asking for the community's support and participation in the Chamber's activities and committees. Anyone interested in volunteering should give us a call at 773-1435."
She jumped right in by promoting the chamber event this Friday. It is Chamber After Hours, sponsored by the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, at Rum Runners beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Ben Rivera Jr., the Chamber's executive director said "I'm pleased to be working closely with Ms. Butler, she is a hardworking member of our business community."
