Habitat for Humanity and Anti-litter Holding Cleanup

0

May 25, 2005–Habitat for Humanity of the U.S. Virgin Islands is conducting a cleanup for the site of its first home on St. Thomas. The site is located on Adele Gade in the upper Garden Street neighborhood and is situated just above and east of the All Saints Cathedral. (See "Habitat for Humanity Starts First Project on Island.").
The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday. The Anti Litter and Beautification Commission will also be conducting a cleanup of the surrounding area on Saturday. Volunteers interested in participating in the cleanup or Habitat for Humanity should meet at Emancipation Gardens on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. or contact Matt Allen at 774-1961.
Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to building and selling affordable housing in partnership with low-income families, according to a release from Allen. This is achieved by building houses with sponsor funding and volunteer labor, then selling the homes to qualified homebuyers through no interest, no profit loans. The non-profit organization also seeks to raise awareness of critical housing issues, motivated by the belief that everyone needs adequate housing as a foundation for a better life.
