May 26, 2005 — A Mutual Homes Housing Community resident was shot to death near the entrance of his apartment about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.
In a release issued by the Police Department Thursday, St. Croix Deputy Police Chief Herminio Velazquez said officers arriving at the scene found 36-year-old Edward Bezear lying face down in a pool of blood outside Building 53.
Bezear had been shot several times and died at the scene from his wounds.
The victim had just arrived at the housing community and was entering the hallway of the building where he lived when he was shot to death, the release stated.
"Several high power bullet casings were found in the area," the release stated. "There were no indications of a robbery."
Police received vague information about individuals fleeing the scene of the crime, but no suspects have been identified.
"There has been no motive established," Sgt. Thomas Hannah, police spokesman, said.
Police are asking residents of the Mutual Homes community and anyone with information on the crime to contact the police at 778-2211, 911, or at the Criminal Investigation Bureau Confidential Line at 778-4950. Residents may also call the police substations at 773-2530, 778-9757, or 778-2244.
All information will be kept in the strictest of confidence.
Bezear's slaying is eighth homicide on St. Croix this year – the 13th territorywide.
