May 27, 2005 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen today announced the winners of the Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery."
Andrea Finch of Good Hope School took the first prize for a second year in a row. Second prize went to Cynthia Pisani of Country Day School and third prize to Annette Xavier of the St. Croix Educational Complex.
"With 54 entries from across the territory, we are pleased at the vast array of artistic talent displayed by the young people in our community," Christensen said.
The competition took place on Friday, May 20 at the Economic Development Commission office in Frederiksted. The annual competition is hosted by Christensen and the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts.
Each year, high school students from across the territory compete in "An Artistic Discovery" for the chance to be chosen to represent the territory in D.C. and have their art displayed along side winners from every congressional district.
The winner of the contest will attend the selection of the national winner and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Capitol Hill display on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. The Virgin Islands Council of the Arts will provide air transportation and hotel accommodations for the winner and chaperone to go to Washington, D.C.
