June 2, 2005 – Senate President Lorraine L. Berry on Thursday extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Virgin Islands police officer James Marrishow who passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon.
"Officer Marrishow's sudden passing is a tremendous loss to the Virgin Islands Police Department as well as to the entire Virgin Islands," Berry said. "Certainly he will be remembered for his kind spirit, his dedication and tireless efforts at the police department."
Berry recalled that Officer Marrishow was one of the National Guardsmen aboard the military aircraft involved in a near fatal accident some two and a half weeks ago over the Turks and Caicos Islands. "Officer Marrishow was one of the brave men who unselfishly gave of himself and his time for the military defense of our country," the Senate President added, "His exemplary service in the police department and the National Guard will cement his legacy for years to come."
"Death is never easy to accept, especially for those who have brought us boundless joy, put the welfare of others above theirs, as Officer Marrishow was to his family, friends and colleagues," Senator Berry explained. "But death encourages us to evaluate the meaning of life and to hold on to the valuable memories of those who are so dear to us," Berry said.
"On behalf of my family, the members and staff of the 26th Legislature of the Virgin Islands, I extend heartfelt sympathies to those who mourn the untimely passing of police officer James Marrishow. May Almighty God grant you comfort, strength and sustain you through this difficult time of bereavement," Berry concluded.
