June 9, 2005 – No injuries were reported on Tuesday night when an American Eagle flight bound for St. Thomas made an emergency landing. Crews from the Cyril King airport were activated and later surrounded the ATR turbo-prop aircraft which, according to a cabin announcement, had "lost hydraulic control on one side." Emergency brakes were engaged to bring the plane to a safe stop.
There were reports of hysteria on board when one passenger panicked. The flight crew attempted to calm the passengers, one person on board said. "The gentleman was very upset that the plane had encountered difficulties," a female passenger said.
Another passenger said the flight crew should be commended for bringing the aircraft in for a safe and successful landing.
