Oct. 21, 2005 – Robert Minogue stepped off his flight to St. Thomas Thursday afternoon and right into the Caneel Bay airport lounge and some local food, drink and celebration.
It was Minogue's first visit to the territory. He is the first sweepstakes winner of the USVI Hotel and Tourism Association series of four sweepstakes. Minogue, of Fairfield, Calif., was chosen from a list of more than 1,500 entries in the "Romance is in the Air" sweepstakes. Winners are selected from entries on the association's website www.virgin-islands-hotels.com.
"We launched these quarterly sweepstakes to get consumers excited about the Virgin Islands, and to entice them to visit our website regularly for updates and special promotions," said Beverly Nicholson, HTA president. "The contests also allow us to collect valuable information on potential visitors and then conduct special promotions targeted for them."
Minogue will be treated to a five-night stay at Caneel Bay, including full breakfast daily, guided snorkel trips, a kayak trip to Henley Cay, a two-day Jeep rental, sunset cocktail cruise, welcome gift and round trip airport transfers.
"I've never visited the Virgin Islands, and I'm looking forward to enjoying this beautiful part of our world," Minogue said.
The other three sweepstakes include a family trip, a spa-themed contest and an adventure outing on St. Croix. An entry form for the St. Croix adventure is on the association's website now.
