Oct. 5 2005 — FirstBank Virgin Islands is accepting applications from local through Oct. 31 for its annual Neighborhood Grant Program. FirstBank VI will award up to $2,000 per organization that is currently recognized as non-profit and tax exempt by the United States IRS under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
According to a press release, the focus of the Neighborhood Grants is to make funding available for programs that promote or sustain economic development or help to revitalize low- and moderate-income communities. This would include affordable housing, small business development, youth programs, care for the homeless, financial literacy, job training programs, day care operations, health services, domestic violence prevention and addiction recovery programs.
In the last nine years through the Neighborhood Grant Program, FirstBank VI has donated about $440,000 to local non-profits, schools and faith-based community programs. In 2004, 23 organizations throughout the Territory received funding.
"Community programs are a powerful tool that not only enhance our society but also prepare us for greater success," said Cassan Pancham, FirsBankt senior vice president. "By providing Neighborhood Grants, we hope to nurture landmark programs so that even more Virgin Islanders are able to experience the many opportunities this community offers."
Applications for the Neighborhood Grant Program are available at all FirstBank branches on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix, and online at FirstBank . Applications must be postmarked no later than Monday, October 31st, 2005 or can be e-mailed to Karen Sprauve.
