Caribbean Music Returns to Its Roots
The Alton Augustus Adams Music Research Institute (AMRI), a branch of the Center for Black Music Research of Columbia College Chicago, will officially take receipt of an entire set of the digitized Caribbean music field recordings made by Alan Lomax during 1962. AMRI has been designated by the Alan Lomax Archive as the official repository in the Caribbean of these historic recordings.
There will be a free public event on Nov. 10, at 7 p.m., at the Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort. Anna Lomax Wood, daughter of Alan Lomax, will make the presentation of the recordings to the Executive Director of AMRI, Rosita M. Sands. The Lockhart School Cultural Dancers will offer a special performance.
