ROTC Cadet Chernenk R. Wheatley/St. Thomas
Oct. 5, 2005 (Army and Air Force Hometown News) – Chernenk R. Wheatley graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.
The 33 days of training provides the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet's intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and stamina. The cadet command assesses each cadet's performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course.
He is the son of Judith C. Rumberg of Annus Retract, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Navy Airman Apprentice Jacinda L. Foster/St. Thomas
Oct. 13, 2005 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Navy Airman Apprentice Jacinda L. Foster, daughter of Frances and Casper Rawlins of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Foster completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. It is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy'' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.
Foster is a 2005 graduate of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School of St. Thomas, V. I.
Air Force Reserve Airman Orlando Melendez/St. Croix
Oct. 17, 2005 (Army and Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Reserve Airman Orlando Melendez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training. He was also taught rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Angela Fontenelle of Frederiksted, Virgin Islands, and nephew of Jackie Fontenelle of Destrehan, La.
Melendez is a 2005 graduate of Destrehan High School.
Air Force Airman Eddie V. Prevost/St. Thomas
Oct. 17, 2005 (Army and Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Airman Eddie V. Prevost has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman learned the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies. He performed drill and ceremony marches and also went through physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Veronica Prevost of Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands.
Prevost is a 2005 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Shinika T. Chelcher/St. Croix
Oct. 24, 2005 (Army and Air Force Hometown News) – Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Shinika T. Chelcher has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies. She performed drill and ceremony marches, received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the daughter of Clydella Stapleton and Patrick Chelcher of Walter I.M. Hodge, Building 17, Frederiksted, Virgin Islands.
The airman is a 2005 graduate of St. Croix Central High School, Virgin
Islands.

Marine Corps Pvt. J'Waan O. Todman/St. Thomas
Oct. 25, 2005 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Marine Corps Pvt. J'Waan O. Todman, son of Candia L. Callwood of Houston, Texas and Tyrone M. Todman of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.
Designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally, Todman and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, he studied first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. He performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training. He also received instruction in the Marine Corps' core values–honor, courage and commitment, and what the core values mean in guiding personal and professional conduct. Todman ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem and addressed as "Marines" for the first time in their careers.

During the eight-week program, she completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
