Mon Bijou and Midland Road Projects Updated

Nov. 3, 2005 – Water in the Mon Bijou Gut will be diverted to flow into a box culvert located in the Frangipani area. The temporary diversion is to allow the flood control channel to dry out. The contractor on the Mon Bijou Flood Control is working to meet the completion deadline in December
In a press release Thursday, Acting Public Works Commissioner George Phillips said this might affect residents of the Frangipani section of the Mon Bijou residential community.
The diversion culvert will be equipped with a shut off device that will prohibit any storm water flow through this culvert in the event a major rainstorm occurs before the completion of the project.
Any questions pertaining to this temporary change in the flow of storm water should be directed to Aloy Nielsen, deputy commissioner of engineering, at 773-1290, ext 2248.
In a second press release, Phillips said Notice to Proceed has been issued to Virgin Islands Paving, Incorporated, the contractor of the Midland Road Project last Friday.
This project will include excavation and improvement of the subsoil under the roadway, resurfacing of the road, and the installation of new water lines, which will replace the aging lines that service the area. The contractor has 270 days to complete this project, with a completion date of Aug. 4.
Phillips assured residents and businesses along Midland Road that access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times during the duration of the project. Through drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.
