Nov. 8, 2005 –The St. Croix Yacht Club holds its annual two-day Around St. Croix race on Nov. 12 and 13, open to all boats over 20 feet in length, according to Fleet Captain Chris Schreiber.
"We're adding a new class this year called "Race Your Home" for liveaboard sailors," says Schreiber, who is planning logistics for the circumnavigation.
The race, a combination of sport and good times, will begin off Green Cay on the north shore, sail around Point Udall and finish off Sprat Hall north of Frederiksted on Saturday. Sailors, their friends, and their families can rendezvous at the beachside Sunset Grill restaurant at Sprat Hall beach. On Sunday, the race will start from the waters off Sprat Hall and end at the waters off Pull Point, east of Christiansted.
Classes will include multihulls, racers, jib and main, and "Race Your Home" for liveaboard sailors.
Good vantage points for spectators will be at Point Udall on St. Croix's east end mid-morning and the Divi Carina Bay resort mid-day on Saturday, Nov. 12. Boats will pass along the island's north shore on Sunday morning, Nov, 13. Awards will be presented mid-afternoon on Sunday at the St. Croix Yacht Club.
A skipper's meeting and registration will be at the yacht club at 7 p.m., Friday. Yacht club membership is not a requirement for participation, and all sailors are welcome from St. Croix or other islands.
