UVI Spring '06 Online Registration Extended Through Dec. 16
Online registration for UVI's 2006 Spring Semester has been extended through Dec. 16. This applies to online registration only. Students are reminded that the enrollment process is not completed until final payment for courses and fees is made. Dec. 20, 2005, is the deadline for payment for Spring Semester courses.

UVI Schedules Final Exams from Dec. 1-7; Fall Semester Ends Dec. 7
The University of the Virgin Islands has scheduled final exams for Fall Semester 2005 for the period of Dec. 1 through Dec. 7. The Fall Semester ends on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The last day for returning students to pay tuition and fees for the Spring 2006 semester is Tuesday, Dec. 20. Spring Semester 2006 Classes will begin on Thursday, Jan. 12.
End-of-Year Holiday Recess Scheduled Dec. 23, 2005 through Jan. 4, 2006
UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster has approved an administrative end-of-year holiday recess for the University staff. The dates for the recess are as follows: Closed Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, through Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006. UVI will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006.
St. Thomas Campus Bookstore Offering Sale on Selected Clothing
The Bookstore on UVI's St. Thomas campus is offering a 40-to-60-percent-off sale on selected items of clothing through Dec. 12.
November 2005 Issue of Dateline: UVI Available Online
The November 2005 issue of the newsletter Dateline: UVI is now available on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu. The newsletter includes stories and photos covering the 2005 St. Thomas/St. John Agriculture Fair, Paradise Jam, French Week, UVI's representatives to the recent Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Leadership Institute and a feature designed to help you make a financial plan before indulging in holiday spending.
UVI Featured in 2006 Issue of Hobsons HBCU Guide
UVI is featured in a two-page spread and a prominent, back-page, full-color ad in the 2006 edition of The Hobsons Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Guide. The HBCU guide is among numerous printed, online and audio-visual guides published by Hobsons, a world-wide specialist is student recruitment.
Ninth V.I. Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference Opens Nov. 28
The 9th Virgin Islands Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference opens today (Monday, Nov. 28) and continues through Nov. 30 on St. John. UVI's Cooperative Extension Service, Conservation Data Center and Marine Advisory Service are among conference sponsors. Issues on the agenda include watershed and coastal management, government initiatives, low-impact development, land use, and education and outreach. UVI Libraries Revise Holiday/Final Exam Period Schedules
In response to student requests, UVI libraries on the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses are offering extended operating hours from Sunday, Nov. 27, through Tuesday, Dec. 6. Revised Schedule:
• Sunday: 1 p.m. – midnight
• Monday through Thursday: 8 a.m. – midnight
• Friday: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

UVI Business Administration Computer Lab Hours Extended
Extended hours of operation have been announced for the computer lab in UVI's Business Administration Building on the St. Thomas campus.
Revised schedule:
• Monday, Nov. 28 – Friday, Dec. 2: 8 a.m. – 2 a.m.
• Saturday, Dec. 3: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
• Sunday, Dec. 4: 11 a.m. – midnight
• Monday, Dec. 5 – Tuesday, Dec. 6: 8 a.m. – 2 a.m.
• Wednesday, Dec. 7: 8 a.m. – midnight
After December 7, only the library computer lab will be available.
Reichhold Ticket Office Announces Holiday Schedule
The Ticket Office at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts has announced special holiday hours. Reichhold Co-Interim Director Pamela Sanes said that maintaining opening hours through the holiday period would help continue ticket sales for the Joe Sample concert scheduled for Jan. 14, 2006.
Reichhold Ticket Office Holiday Schedule:
• Dec. 19 to 23: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Dec. 26 to 30: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Jan. 2 to 5: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

RIOT Walk-A-Thon Raises $785 for Katrina Victims
RIOT, an interdenominational student group on UVI's St. Thomas campus, has raised $785.25 for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The group organized a walk-a-thon in October to raise the funds. RIOT – Righteous Instruments Of Truth – President Latoya Brathwaite, a senior biology major on UVI's St. Thomas campus, said the funds were contributed to the UVI Katrina Relief Fund. Three groups raised money in the walk-a-thon, RIOT ($633.25), Golden Key ($97) and Rotaract ($50). RIOT Vice President Fay Penn raised the highest individual total of contributions at $233.
The event was also sponsored by LeBleu Water/Chico's Distributing, Frank's Bakery, Victor's Hideout and VIP Awards and Engraving.
Tennessee, Minnesota Win Women's Divisions of Paradise Jam
Paradise Jam 2005 concluded over the Thanksgiving weekend with No. 2-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols and the No. 12-ranked ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers winning the St. John and St. Thomas divisions, respectively. Paradise Jam is an NCAA Division I preseason basketball tournament held annually at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. Congratulations to the organizers, volunteers, teams and fans who helped make this year's Paradise Jam another resounding success. UVI Christmas Concert Scheduled Dec. 3 at Reichhold Center
The Annual UVI Christmas Concert, staged by the Music Program of UVI's Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. The program will feature the UVI Concert Band, under the direction of Prof. Austin A. Venzen, the UVI Concert Choir, under the direction of Kirsten Kienberger, and the UVI Jazz Ensemble, directed by Prof. Martin J. Lamkin. Shenelle Warner will direct the Steel Pan Ensemble.
Special guests will include UVI alum Malvern Gumbs, who now teaches in the public school system, and the Anacrusis Brass Quintet, headed by Prof. Martin Lamkin. Joining Prof. Lamkin in the quintet are Juan Harrigan, Clayton Emmanuel, Dr. Leroy Trotman and Warren Hendrickson. UVI Prof. Dr. Lorna Young-Wright will accompany the choir on piano.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They may be purchased at the Dockside Bookstore in the Havensight Mall, the UVI Bookstore and the UVI Humanities Division office.
CES to Offer Free Eco-Hike Training Guide Workshop/Field Tour on St. Croix
The Agriculture and Natural Resources Program of the University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service will offer a free, Eco-Hike Training Guide Workshop from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, in room 133 of the UVI Research

SBDC Workshop on Surety Bonding Set Dec. 5 on St. Thomas
UVI's Small Business Development Center (UVI-SBDC), in collaboration with The Surety Source, Inc. (TSS), will present a Surety Bonding Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, at the UVI-SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. Admission is Free. Space is limited. SBDC Schedules Small Group Counseling on Business/Finance Topics
UVI's Small Business Development Center (UVI-SBDC) will conduct small group counseling sessions on three business and finance topics in December. Admission is free, however space is limited to five persons per sessions. Individuals are limited to one session. Pre-registration is required by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1. Session topics and schedules are as follows:
• Developing and Implementing an Effective Business Plan — 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5
• Personal Credit/Money Management — 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6
• Financing Your Start-Up Business Venture — 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7

Employee Benefits Fairs Set Dec. 6 on St. Croix, Dec. 7 on St. Thomas
UVI's Human Resources Department has scheduled 2005 Employee Benefits/Wellness Fairs for the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses next week. All UVI employees are encouraged to participate. On the St. Croix campus, the fair is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6. It will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Cafetorium. On the St. Thomas campus, the fair is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 7. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sports and Fitness Center.
Fair participants expected to be on hand to answer questions and to share information include: Cigna Health Care, MetLife, St. Thomas Federal Credit Union, Medical Air Services Association (MASA), AFLAC, TIAA-CREFF, GERS, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Social Security Administration, United Way, the Reichhold Center, Workers Compensation, UVI Bookstore, UVI Library, UVI Media Center (employee ID cards), UVI Health Services and the UVI Human Resources Department (flex enrollment and more). The fair will also offer free health screenings, free massages and a variety of prizes and giveaway items.

UVI-CES to Hold Holiday Baking Workshops on St. Thomas
The University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Services' Family & Consumer Sciences Program on St. Thomas campus will conduct free workshops on making sweet breads and cakes on Dec. 6 and 7. The schedule is as follows:
– Date: Dec. 6 and 7, 2005
– Times: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Opportunities Available as Alternate Language Teachers in Japan
University seniors who expect to graduate in the spring of 2006 are advised that they may apply for an opportunity to work in Japan as alternate language (English) teachers at high schools in the country. Available positions pay from $33,000 to $35,000 per year. To qualify, students must be U.S. citizens, be a college graduate and speak and write standard English well. The deadline to apply is Nov. 29, 2005. Interested individuals can obtain the necessary application forms and information from UVI business professor Dr. Keishiro Matsumoto. Applications Extended for Who's Who Among Students Until Dec. 1
The Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges application process on the St. Croix campus has been extended until Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005. Applications are available from Monday through Friday in Evans Center room 802 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and in Evans Center room 811 from Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For details call 692-4181.
UVI MBA Comprehensive Exam Rescheduled for Dec. 9
UVI's MBA Comprehensive Exam, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 18, has been rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 9. The exam will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in room 222 of the Sports and Fitness Center on St.Thomas and in the Research Extension Building room 139 on the St. Croix campus.
