The Safety Zone Holds an Art Show, Sale and Silent Auction

Jan. 1, 2006 – Mark Saturday, Jan. 28 on your calendar for the Grand Opening Gala of The Safety Zone's Fourth annual world-class art show, sale and silent auction, The World Hand, begins at 6 p.m., at Caneel Bay Resort. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Jan. 31. The juried show and sale will feature original works by top artists from throughout the Virgin Islands, the United States, India and other locations around the world. Caneel's renowned chefs will prepare special hors d'oeuvres and chocolates for the event and champagne will be served.
The sale will include paintings in a variety of sizes and a wide range of media, unique designer jewelry, handwoven silk scares, sculptures, wood turnings, photography, fabric art and more, at prices for everyone's pocket book.
The silent auction promises an array of items, from dinners, day sails, massages, and jewelry to resort stays, Seaborne Airlines tickets, gift baskets, hair styling, gift certificates and other fabulous prizes.
The money helps support Safe Zone programs, as well as day-to-day operations. The Safety Zone, St. John's Domestic Violence and Victims of Crime Agency, is dedicated to ending violence. Its mission is to effect change through intervention, information, education, and advocating for the general public with a focus on domestic violence, abuse and/or neglect of infants, children and adults inside or outside the family unit. Serving more than 300 clients in 2005 alone, The Safety Zone provides free services to all victims of crime through counseling and support groups for targets and perpetrators; community outreach programs; training for law enforcement and advocates; and shelter and respite at Lucy's Place, St. John's only safe house.
Tickets to the opening gala are $50 in advance, $60 at the door. Outlets include: The Safety Zone; Chelsea Drug Store, St. John and Red Hook; Connections, Cruz Bay and Coral Bay; The Drug Center, St. John; and Modern Music, Havensight and Nisky Center. Dress is island fancy. After Saturday, the exhibit is free.
