Jan. 22, 2006 — An investigation is underway into the territory's second murder of 2006. The killing was recorded when a 13-year-old was shot in the head while at his home in Hospital Ground on St. Thomas.
Few details were available from police Sunday other than a confirmation that the fatal shooting did take place around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Schneider Regional Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Amos Carty Jr. Sunday night confirmed the death of the teenager. "He was brought into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the head. Attempts were made to sustain his life, but unfortunately he died a while after arriving at the ER."
Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Hannah said he had limited information on the shooting but said a preliminary investigation revealed that a female called police to report the shooting and "she indicated that someone was outside her home and had shot her son."
Authorities had no suspects or motive in the latest murder, and the weapon used in the shooting had not been recovered.
On the night of Jan. 19, a cruise ship entertainer was shot and killed in a robbery attempt while in his hotel room at the Best Western Carib Beach Hotel. The victim, Blair Shannon, was killed by a gunshot wound to the body, inflicted when he wrestled with an unknown suspect who entered his room through an unlocked door. A female companion was not injured in the robbery attempt and subsequent shooting.

Sadly, there was more violent crime on the island this weekend. Friday night an Altona man was stabbed several times and collapsed on Veterans Drive Highway, adjacent to Western Cemetery No. 3, about 8:30 pm.
Police officials said the man suffered multiple stab wounds to the body, which was covered in blood when initial police units arrived on the scene. The identity of the dreadlocked black male was not known, and no suspects were named by police over the weekend.
An investigation into that stabbing continues.
