Jan. 26, 2006 – Senator Craig W. Barshinger, chairperson of the Health, Hospitals and Human Services committee today announced a new date for the continuation of the hearing to take testimony on Bill No. 26-0194 regarding mandatory private sector health coverage.
The hearing will now take place at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 13, at the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall in St. Thomas.
"This is a monumental bill, one which could ultimately affect the quality of health care for thousands of Virgin Islanders who presently are uninsured or underinsured," Senator Barshinger said. "The new hearing date would allow more time for the stake holders to come to the table and formconsensus."
Dr. Cora Christian, Virgin Islands Medical Institute Director said the date change will give consumers, providers and sponsors of the bill time to meet. "The measure addresses a critical issue and it is essential that everyone affected be able to have their voice heard," Christian said.
Senator Barshinger continues to encourage open dialogue among all involved.
