Wisconsin Spinnaker Wins St. Croix Regatta

Feb. 20, 2006 – A Farr 395 from Bayfield, Wisc., called Chippewa took first place in spinnaker racing in the St. Croix International Regatta. Skippered by Dave West, the Chippewa took home the weight of its heaviest crew member in Cruzan Rum.
Thirty-seven boats registered for the regatta's three days of racing.
Boomerang, a J33 from Tortola, won in the racer cruiser category.
Sun Bum II from Culebra, Puerto Rico, took home the Commodore's Trophy, a prize for good sportsmanship, presented by St. Croix Yacht Club Commodore Joe San Martin.
This year's regatta drew entrants from Antigua, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, the United States, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.

1st place: Chippewa (Dave West – Bayfield, Wis., USA)
2nd place: Mistress Quickly (Guy Eldridge – Tortola)
3rd place: Sorceress (Morgan Dale – St. Croix)
RACER CRUISER:
1st place: Boomerang (Pat Nolan – Tortola)
2nd place: Pipe Dream (Peter Haycraft – Tortola)
3rd place: Tempest (John Haracivet – St. Thomas)

PERFORMANCE CRUISER:
1st place: Shamrock V (Tom Mullen – Campton, N.H., USA)
2nd place: Ambivalence (James Kloss – St. Croix)
3rd place: Cayennita (Tony Sanpere – St. Croix)
MULTIHULL:
1st place: Charis+ (Llewellyn Westerman – St. Croix)
2nd place: Piglet (Joe San Martin – St. Croix)
3rd place: Chaos (Inglore Westerman – St. Croix)
BEACH CATS:
1st place: Wave Magnet (Doug DeReu – St. Croix)
2nd place: Caribbean Auto Mart (Tom Ainger – St. Croix)
3rd place: Love Never Fails (Bruce Andryc – St. Croix)
IC-24:
1st place: Brand New 2nd Hand (Chris Currieri – St. Thomas)
2nd place: Fiona (Colin Rathbun – Tortola)
3rd place: Conch-querer (Andrew Waters – Tortola)
