March 26, 2006 – The University of the Virgin Islands Little Theatre is closing its 2005-2006 season with playwright Tom Ziegler's adaptation of Carlo Goldoni's famous Italian comedy "The Servant of Two Masters." Performances are from Saturday, April 1 through Tuesday, April 4, on the second floor of the Classroom Administration Building. It is a madcap farce about two sets of lovers, two impossible fathers and manipulative servants. The cast is comprised of both UVI students and professors. The lead part, the trickster Truffaldino, is played by UVI student, George Silcott Jr. and Monai Greene plays Smeraldina, his love interest.
Tom Ziegler's adaptation is set in eighteenth century Santo Tomaso. The title of the play refers to the two employers of the major character, the comical Truffaldino, whose antics are highlighted throughout the play. The story follows the fate of a troupe of actors who mail themselves to the Virgin Islands to be in a show.
Tom Ziegler first adapted the Italian comedy for modern audiences while teaching as a professor of theater at Washington and Lee University. He is not only directing the production but also designed the set.
Tickets for the UVI Little Theatre production are $12 for adults and $6 for students. They are on sale at Dockside Bookshop in Havensight Mall, Nisky Mail Boxes in Nisky Center, UVI Bookstore and the UVI Humanities Building.
