Paradise Point/St. Thomas Skyride

St. Thomas Skyride’s Austrian-made tram car (just minutes from downtown) up to Paradise Point, an area with several shops, cafes and – yes – even a trained bird show and a wedding gazebo, 700 feet above Charlotte Amalie Harbor.
Paradise Point Cafe claims to be "Home of the Baileys Bushwacker." I’ve had Bushwackers – a frozen island drink – all over the island, and I can say with confidence the ones are Paradise Point are incredible. And they come out of a fun-looking slurpee-like machine in a tram-car shaped souvenier glass. Even better!
The cafe has an impressive menu, too. Live bands play there every Wednesday night during the area’s extended hours, and the cafe hosts several special functions every month.
This is not an activity for the clausterphobic or those scared of heights. The tram cars ride anywhere from 5 to 50 feet above the ground. The cars themselves are about six-feet wide by eight-feet long – in other words, not a lot of space for the eight people crammed inside. Fortunately there was a nice breeze to keep us all cool. There are no seats, but there is a ledge around three sides of the car to lean on.
Insider tip
Three tram cars always travel up the mountain together in a row. Your least-spectacular view will be from the middle car, because the windows on two of the four sides look directly into the surrounding tram cars. So for the best view on the ride up and down, get into the third car going up and the first car going down. The last car’s view is definitely better than the middle car, too.
