April 15, 2006 – An investigation is ongoing into the death of Ira Cruse Jr., 40, who was killed around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon outside his home in Estate Mon Bijou.
According to Police Department spokesman Sgt. Thomas Hannah, police responded to calls made by residents in the area at 1:08 p.m., after they heard shots being discharged.
Hannah said police found Cruse's body outside the backdoor of his home with a gunshot wound to the left side of his neck.
"According to some witnesses, someone called him [Cruse] to the door," Hannah said Saturday afternoon. Hannah said Cruse and possibly the perpetrator ran from the front door toward the back of the house, where Cruse was shot.
While Hannah said that no motive has been established in the shooting, police are investigating statements made by witnesses who said they saw a vehicle leaving the crime scene.
Hannah said that Cruse appeared to be alone in his house when the shooting occurred and that nothing was taken from the residence.
This is the territory's 13th homicide for 2006.
