Barshinger Accepts Invitation to Wednesday's Debate

Oct. 31, 2006 Senator-at-Large Craig W. Barshinger announced Tuesday that he has accepted an invitation from the League of Women Voters to participate in a public debate for all candidates running for the at-large post.
"This is the third time that the League has tried to arrange the debate between me and my competitor," Barshinger said. "I applaud the organization for its perseverance in making sure that the public hears from the Senator-at-Large candidates so that they can make an informed decision."
The Leagues' two previous attempts at hosting the debate had to be canceled, once due to weather and the other because Barshinger's competitor had called in sick. The debate is once again scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Nov.1, 2006 at 3 p.m. in the WTJX studio on St. Thomas and air on Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. on Channel 12 WTJX.
"I look forward to this opportunity of publicly debating with my competitor, and thank the League for its commitment to the voters of this territory," Barshinger said, adding that since the Primary Election, the at-large candidates for the General Election have not had a public debate between them.
