deJongh and Francis Commend V.I. Teachers of the Year

November 17, 2006 John deJongh and Gregory Francis, Democratic candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor, congratulated Valrica Bryson and Lurlene Gerard for being selected as Teachers of the Year from the Districts of St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John, respectively.
"Teachers are such important role models for our children that it is only fitting that the best among them be recognized publicly," deJongh stated. "They are the unsung heroes of our community, but we should never forget the impact that educators have on every child within the school system. With the observance of American Education Week, let's take a moment to remember the teachers who inspired and motivated us, as well as congratulate Ms. Bryson and Ms. Gerard for this well-deserved recognition."
Ms. Bryson, a music instructor at the St. Croix Educational Complex, was selected as the St. Croix District's Teacher of the Year as well as the territory's State Teacher of the Year. Ms. Gerard, a first grade teacher and choir director at Gladys Abraham Elementary School, was selected as the St. Thomas-St. John District's Teacher of the Year.
"We would also like to congratulate the other teacher of the year finalists. Just to be nominated by your principals is an honor. The future of our territory rests largely with our educational system, and it's uplifting to know that our schools are staffed with dedicated, caring individuals like Ms. Bryson, Ms. Gerard and the other finalists," deJongh concluded.
