Alert: WAPA Announces St. Croix Water Conservation Schedule

Nov. 29, 2006 — The V.I. Water and Power Authority is advising its St. Croix water customers that the IDE No. 3 water desalination plant has been taken out of service for routine maintenance and is expected be online again Dec. 8.
Starting Wednesday, Nov. 29 until Dec. 8, the authority will institute a water conservation schedule on St. Croix. As a result, consumers will experience water interruption between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily.
Consumers are urged to conserve water and switch to cisterns or wells, if available. Some ways to be water wise include the following:
— keep showers brief with pressure at low force;
–turn off running water while brushing teeth or shaving;
–fill wash and rinse basins with water when washing dishes to avoid running water continuously;
–recycle rinse water to water plants;
–immediately repair leaks and drips;
–match the water level to the load size in washing machines and only do full loads; and
–avoid extra cycles in the dishwasher.
WAPAs Water Distribution Division will conserve water by cutting off its pumping capacity during the above-mentioned hours. Consumers at higher elevations may be the first to notice the effects of the water outage.
WAPA apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this service enhancement effort.
