Mentally Ill Coral Bay Man Now Missing for Three Weeks


Nov. 30, 2006 — Carrel "Nicky" Brady, 41, of Coral Bay has now been missing for at least three weeks. "We haven't heard anything. It's just heart wrenching for us," his sister, Valencia Benjamin, said Thursday.
Brady, who suffers from mental illness, is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has short salt-and-pepper dreadlocks and a beard.
Usually barefoot and wearing jeans and a T-shirt, he's often seen walking in the Coral Bay area. He lives in Little Plantation near Sweet Plantains restaurant.
Benjamin said he sometimes hitches a ride to Cruz Bay, but when people find him there, they usually put him on the bus back to Coral Bay.
His sister said he and only speaks when spoken to. "But he doesn't trouble anybody," Benjamin said.
She said he hasn't been taking any medication for his condition and that, other than his mental illness, his health was good.
She said he often helps out by cleaning at Skinny Legs Bar and Restaurant and Love City Mini Mart.
Another sister, Daren Brady, said her brother had no money.
Benjamin said she heard that he was seen at Reef Bay .
Police Department spokeswoman Shawna Richards said she had no information on Brady's disappearance.
