Wind and Rain Expected to Continue Through the Weekend

Dec. 1, 2006 – Look for quick-passing, light-to-moderate showers and occasionally cloudy skies throughout Friday, National Weather Service meteorologist Shawn Rossi said at 8:15 a.m. Friday from San Juan.
"It looks like the wind and the showers will last through Sunday," he said.
He predicted a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday.
Winds should be brisk at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph, he said.
Rossi said the territory is under a wind advisory until noon, but he expects it will be extended.
The damp weather is the result of a strong high-pressure system that's building to the north. Rossi said that the tightening pressure gradient is causing the strong winds, which are bringing the moisture to the area.
He said that between 2 and 8 a.m., about one-tenth of an inch of rain fell at Cyril E. King Airport. Weather station Zephyr in Coral Bay, St. John reported about the same in the same time period.
Rossi said no rain was recorded at Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix.
