UVI to Observe Three Kings Day on Jan. 5
The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, in observance of the Three Kings Day holiday. University offices will reopen on Monday, Jan. 8.
UVI Online Only Registration Extended Through Sunday, Jan. 7
Online registration for Spring Semester classes at the University of the Virgin Islands has been extended through Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, by UVI's Office of Access and Enrollment Services. The extension applies to online registration only. During this period, students will be able to access their web registration (Banner) accounts using their original pin numbers. Alternate pin numbers will not be required during this extended enrollment period. A news release and links to the UVI online registration page are available on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
Tuition, Fee Payment
Students who have registered but have not yet paid for Spring 2007 classes tuition and fees will be able to submit payment on Jan. 11 and 12, 2007. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. It will allow students to retain registration for Spring 2007. A delay of payment may impact enrollment in preferred classes.
Financial Aid
Students are encouraged to visit the Financial Aid page on the University web site for information about costs of attendance, financial aid, scholarships and the recently implemented deferred tuition plan.
Orientation Schedules Available Online; Spring Semester Begins Jan. 11
UVI's Spring Semester classes begin on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007. Orientation for new students begins on Sunday, Jan. 7. Complete orientation schedules are available from the "Academics" page and the "Student Life" page on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.
Angélique Kidjo to Discuss World Music in Videoconferenced Forum at UVI
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts and the African Association of St. Thomas-St. John will present "An Evening with International World Music Star Angélique Kidjo" at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11. Kidjo will discuss her extensive career on the world stage, as well as the impact of African music on music of the Caribbean and Latin America. Moderators for this forum include UVI Humanities Professor Gene Emanuel and Dr. Solomon Kabuka, president of the African Association. The forum will take place in Chase Auditorium (B-110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Individuals on St. Croix can participate via videolink in the Evans Center Theater (EC-401) on UVI's St. Croix campus. The forum offers a preview of Kidjo's Jan. 13 performance at the Reichhold Center. For details, call 693-1563.
Little Theatre Sets Auditions for Spring Production of 'Caribbean Babylon'
The UVI Little Theatre has announced that auditions for its Spring production of "Caribbean Babylon" will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 and 17, 2007. Auditions will be held in the Little Theatre, located in the Classroom Administration Building on UVI's St. Thomas campus. "Caribbean Babylon," written by St. Thomas native Gus Edwards, is set on St. Thomas in the 1950s, not long after large-scale tourism became a major economic and cultural force. Seven actors are needed: five black actors (four men and one woman) and two white actors (one man and one woman). The play will run on March 2 through 5 and March 9 through 11. Scholarship Application Deadline is Jan. 8
Interested UVI undergraduate students are invited to apply for scholarships offered by the University for the Spring 2007 Semester. The application deadline is Monday, Jan. 8. To be considered, students must complete a UVI scholarship application form (available from the "Student Life" page of the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.) have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and have completed at least one semester at UVI. For additional requirements and more information on scholarships, call the UVI Office of Institutional Advancement at 693-1040.
