Wyatt Scores 20 as the Tribe Dominates Crunch Time 36-24

Jan. 13, 2007 — A series of turnovers on both sides Friday night gave way to a polished performance by the Tribe, who pulled away from Crunch Time for a 36-24 victory.
The action came as part of the regular Friday night junior-basketball action at the Central High School gym, featuring teams in the 13-to-15 age group. After a 10-6 first quarter, the Tribe opened up a seven-point lead at the half behind seven second-quarter points from Thomas Wyatt, going into the locker room ahead 21-14.
Crunch Time scored the first four points of the second half to pull within three at 21-18 with 2:27 left in the third quarter, but five unanswered points by the Tribe — ignited by a long three-pointer by Wyatt — pushed the lead to eight at 26-18 after three quarters.
Both teams turned up their defensive intensity to start the fourth. After two minutes they had only one basket apiece. But the Tribe’s basket was a three-pointer and their lead swelled to nine at 29-20. The Tribe’s height and overall talent again took over down the stretch and they were able to cruise the rest of the way for a 36-24 victory.
The Tribe was led by their Mr. Everything, Thomas Wyatt, who dominated the game with 20 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Teammate Dimoi Roberts netted six points to go with six rebounds and three steals. For Crunch Time, Edwin Ventura netted 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Ronald Bogan chipped in with six points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Mo Fire 33, Zion 32
The first game of the night, Mo Fire vs. Zion, went down to the wire, but Mo Fire was able to pull out a 33-32 win. Mo Fire’s Osei Gore led all scorers with 12 points, while teammate Elijah Brooks chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and three steals. For Zion, it was Tarik McMillian leading the way with 11 points, five boards and two steals. Asha Gore chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Boys Dem 45, Working Together 31
Game three was a one-sided affair as Boys Dem crushed Working together 45-31 in a game that was not even as close as the final score. Boys Dem was led by Iaryn Williams, who had 16 points, six rebounds and four steals. Teammate Warren Brooks had nine points, six boards and three steals, while Theron Jones added eight points. Working Together's balanced attack was led by Kevin Hughes, who had six points, four rebounds and three steals.
