Scott and Benson Capture 2006 Order of Merit Championship

Jan. 15, 2007 — Kevin Scott and Mike Benson’s best-ball net score of 59 gave them a decisive victory Saturday afternoon in the 2006 Buccaneer Golf Course’s Order of Merit Championship, closing out a year of competition.
Scott shot a gross score of 76 while his partner, Benson, shot 86. On a net basis, they posted two eagles and seven birdies. Their closest competitors in the 18-hole event were the teams of Jeff Lee and Diane Burns and Chuck Vouros and Harper Jones. Both teams shot a net 65 to finish tied for second.
By virtue of their win, Scott and Benson are the Buccaneer's Champion Golfers of 2006, and each receives a yellow head cover to honor their victory.
Closest-to-the-pin prizes went to Diane Burns (3rd hole), Jeff Lee (9th hole), Rafa Bonet (10th hole) and Bill Weatherwax (13th hole).
The Order of Merit is a year-long competition whereby points are accumulated through the many tournaments run at the East End golf course. All players receive a certain number of points for every tournament entry as well as for their wins; only the top twelve point-getters for the year are invited to play in January's Order of Merit Championship.
