Jones Emerges Undefeated From Three Meets in Germany

Feb. 13, 2007 — The V.I. Track and Field Federation announced today that Laverne Jones concluded her three-meet competition swing in Germany with a first-place finish in the 400 meters at the Karlsruhe LBBW Meet 2007 in Germany.
It was there that she "took a commanding lead over the first 100 meters of her women's 400 meter race. But coming into the bell, Germany's Claudia Hoffmann had cut the advantage and was right on the back of Jones, who hit the halfway point in 24.55 seconds.
With Hoffman breathing down her neck, Jones moved to the next gear, as she again dipped under 52 seconds with 51.91 in her first season seriously focusing on the two-lap race. Hoffmann's second-place time was 52.50.
According to European sources, "Jones has been in scintillating form this year, as she picked up her 11th successive victory of 2007." She won the 60 meters in the PSD Bank Meeting in Dusseldorf in 7.22, ahead of Jeanette Kwakye of Great Britain (7.30).
She also clocked two world's best and V.I. national records in the 400 (51.60) and 60 (7.16) in Stuttgart, in addition to a world-leading 200-meter indoor time of 23.01 in Johnson City, Tenn., in January.
