Gifts Greet St. Thomas New Year's Baby

Jan. 2, 2007 — A few hours after Keon Jared Reece took his first breaths at Schneider Regional Medical Center Tuesday, representatives of the Business and Professional Women (BPW) of St. Thomas were on hand to shower both the newborn baby and his mother with presents and well wishes.
Reece was the first child born in the St. Thomas-St. John district during the new year. The second son for parents June and Ruthven Reece of Tortola, baby Keon arrived at 9:42 a.m., weighing in at 5 pounds, 13 ounces.
Through an initiative called the Baby Blanca program, for the past 25 years BPW members have donated gifts to the first baby born on St. Thomas.
"Our organization stands proud on the tradition of women helping women," said Daniela Roumou, Blanca Baby's chairwoman. "Our Blanca Baby program — started by the late Sandin Blanca — gives us the opportunity to make a positive impact on the life of the baby, his or her mother and the entire family. Through this program, members are given yet another opportunity to share with and help others within our community."
Blanca Baby gifts presented to baby Keon and mother June on Tuesday included essentials such as diapers, wipes, blankets, clothes and other toiletries.
