Rhythm and Blues Festival Will Be Held


Jan. 3, 2008 – The St. Croix Blues Festival kicks off with Deanna Bogart at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Blue Moon Café.
Our Town Frederiksted will host a massive concert featuring top rhythm and blues musicians from 2-10 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Paul E. Joseph Stadium as part of the St. Croix Blues Festival. Some 2,000 passengers are expected to disembark when the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise docks at Frederiksted Pier. Tickets for the Legendary Rhythm and Blue Cruise concert are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate.
Taj Mahal, the Phantom Blues Band, Shemekia Copeland and Terrence Simien will be among the musical greats performing. They will be joined at the concert by Coco Montoya, Deanna Bogart, Maxx Cabello Jr. and St. Croix's own Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights. Jimi "Prime Time" Smith will appear after the concert at The Lost Dog.
St. Thomas and St. John residents can purchase a package that includes ferry transportation and concert tickets for $95. A special ferry to Christiansted will leave Cruz Bay at 10 a.m. and Red Hook at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Transportation to and from the concert will be available at additional cost. The ferry will leave Christiansted for St. Thomas and St. John following the concert.
The festival continues with The Blues Guitar Summit on Friday, Jan. 18, at Island Center with Coco Montoya, Maxx Cabello Jr. and Jimi "Prime Time" Smith. Tickets for the Blues Guitar Summit are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.
The five-day festival concludes Saturday, Jan. 19, with a Super Blues Jam hosted by the St. Croix Blues Society.
Ticket outlets on St. Thomas are Modern Music in Havensight and Home Again in Red Hook. On St. John, tickets are available at Connections and Transportation Services.
