Family Resource Center to Give Peacemaker Awards

0

Jan. 9, 2008 – The Family Resource Center will honor Maria Ferreras and Donald Sussman with Peacemaker Awards at its annual event to be held at 6 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Prior-Jollek Theater, Antilles School campus. The gala will begin with fine wines from Premier Wine & Spirits paired with delicious hors d'oeuvres prepared by Tropical Events Group. Guests will move inside for the awards presentations, then return to an outdoor setting for desserts and sparkling champagne.
Throughout the evening a silent auction will offer items as varied as an Indian dinner for 20, a barbecue and musical entertainment by Harmony Dem, and a Rolex Air King luxury watch. The piece de resistance is dinner with the governor and his wife.
Maria Ferreras, a member of the FRC's Board of Directors for 10 years, was its very active president for two of those years. Her commitment to the FRC continues today. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, working with the homeless, a helper to Karen's Place, working with its mentally ill residents, and a volunteer with the V.I. Council for Disability Rights.
Donald Sussman supports many non-profit groups on St. Thomas and St. John from educational institutions: the University of the Virgin Islands, Charlotte Amalie and Eudora Kean High Schools, Julius Sprauve School and the V.I. Resource Center for the Disabled; to arts organizations: Arts Alive, Love City Pandragons, Pistarckle Theater, Reichhold Center for the Arts and the St. John School of the Arts. He has been very generous to the FRC, providing a grant that allowed the center to expand its development activities.
Each year the Family Resource Center chooses a person to honor who has truly made a difference to the community, making it a safer, more compassionate, better place for all. It is proud to present the Peacemaker Awards to Maria Ferreras and Donald Sussman.
To attend, call the FRC at 776-3966. Tickets are $100 each.
